Today's Mind Opener - Joey the Joker - Co-dependent Roles we get stuck in!

JOEY THE JOKER

We have all seen Joey the Joker and maybe we have even had fun being him at times.   Joey the Joker is always “on”, being center stage and the class clown.  Joey will always make his presence felt wherever he may be.  He is the attention getter.
He is the one who feels he must be known and recognized by everyone.  He could express this by being so accident prone that he is always stumbling around breaking the china and dumping the punch bowl at the party, wearing a cast and complaining of pain, assuring his being noticed.  He is the ultimate attention getter.
You can see Freddie the Fixer and Tommie the Terrible are similar in terms of needing to get attention.
Joey can be a natural leader, but unfortunately he has a limited sense of responsibility and appropriateness.  Thus leadership devolves into disruption.  He likes to disrupt and move attention from others onto himself.
Just like Freddie and Tommie, Joey believes that attention is the same thing as love.  And so he has developed silliness as his attention getting device.  Joey equate recognition with friendship and success.  He believes that if he is disruptive and getting attention he is actually popular.    And unlike Laura the Loner he wants and needs visibility.  Laura would want to die if she were thrown into that kind of exposure.  But for Joey death is when  he isn’t noticed.
Joey doesn't know how to be alone.  He doesn’t know how to appreciate his own company.  He can’t be home with just his wife, he needs a much larger audience for his antics.
Joey can’t get close to anyone.  He has trouble accepting responsibility.  He doesn’t understand and respect appropriate boundaries. Friendship and intimacy will founder and fail within this role.
