Sure,
Super Hero movies are great fun that make us, also, feel strong, amazingly good
looking and the ultimate winner. All great for us little people in an out of
control world vicariously feel like a super hero ourselves. This is healthy and
cathartic. But wait. . .(you knew I would throw a BUT in here). . .this doesn’t
really translate into life. Nor should it. Think about it.
As
a woman do I have to look like a playboy bunny who is a hero because I can punch,
kick and fight like a man? That sounds like a male fantasy of what a woman
super hero should be. (What about the single mom with unequal pay doing the
best she can each day?)
Do
I have to crush someone into dust just because they want to crush me into dust?
That sounds like school yard bullies or maybe power hungry world leaders. (What
happened to quiet dignity and finding another way toward peace?)
And
these are only two examples, I could go on.
But
wait. . . (back to the other side of the argument). . .we do need fantastic
qualities to face our own INNER demons. We can use the emotional boost these
gloriously fun movies give us to beat the crap out of our debilitating feelings
of unworthiness, fear and cancerous anger.
Let’s
not confuse the two. The outer world needs the humane, respectful dignity that
can create true peace. The inner world can use a good butt kicking when it threatens
our wellbeing.
For
me A Course in Miracles has taught that true heroics includes the willingness
to be wrong, to let go, to allow another healing perspective to guide my
thoughts and actions. Trust me, this is not the pathway for wimps. But a
training program for ‘bigger than life’ spiritual super heroes - just like you
and me.
(By the way, if you want to kick your
ACIM studies up another notch try my “Instant Curriculum for A Course in Miracles”.
No opinions only great leading questions to guide you or your group through organized
and intensive study of the Course. You can find this in the column on the left)
