Our Father's Voice
Little Lamb remembered his Father’s words. He would go deep within the dream world and awaken all those who were asleep and had forgotten their Father’s world.
Darkness, as soft as a blanket, covered Little Lamb and in his sleep he began to dream. And in the dream he was on a path in a forest.
Gray Squirrel was scampering back and forth under a large tree, its leaves a bright orange.
“Hello Gray Squirrel. How are you this fine day?” asked Little Lamb.
“Terrible, terrible. That’s how I am this fine Fall day. Soon the frost will be coming and then the snow. The snow will cover all the nuts and seeds and pollynoses. What shall I eat then? Oh dear, what shall I do?” And off the squirrel ran.
Little Lamb walked further down the path in the forest and there he met Bear. “Hello Bear. How are you this fine day?” asked Little Lamb.
Bear looked down sadly at Little Lamb and sighed. “The long winter is coming and I am a big bear. I am always hungry. How will I be able to live through the winter when the snow comes and the bees stop making honey for me to eat?”
Bear walked slowly into the woods sighing deeply to himself. Again Little Lamb walked further down the path. Over his head flew a flock of geese, their wings flapping loudly.
“Where are you going on such a fine day?” asked Little Lamb.
“Where, oh where, can we go?” asked the largest goose. “Soon the winter will come and the lakes will freeze and the trees will be covered with snow. Where will we live without freezing?”
And off the geese flew squawking unhappily.
Little Lamb sat down on the side of the path. He was troubled by his friends’ problems. He knew he must help them, but how? And so, Little Lamb closed his eyes and within his heart he asked his Father for help.
“Father, my friends are worried and frightened.” Little Lamb prayed. “They need Your help. What can I do?”
And through the mist of the dream his Father’s Voice answered him.
“Tell your friends, Little Lamb, that I will listen to their questions and answer them. All they must do is ask and then listen for My answer within their hearts. I love all My children and I am always here to help them.”
And so Little lamb called all the animals together and told them, “Our Father, Who is always with us will help you. All you must do is close your eyes, ask for His help and listen to your hearts. He will answer.”
Gray Squirrel closed his eyes and said, “Father, I am worried. Soon the snow will cover all the nuts and seeds. How will I eat?” And then Gray Squirrel sat quietly and listened to his heart.
“Do not worry Squirrel,” came his Father’s Voice. “Go and gather up all the nuts and seeds you can find. Store them in the ground. Then when the winter comes you can dig them up. This way you will never be hungry.”
“Thank you Father. Now I know just what to do.”
And off scampered Gray Squirrel eager and happy to collect food for the winter.
Bear closed his eyes and said, “Father, I am a big bear and am always hungry. I will starve this winter when the bees stop making honey. What shall I do?”
And Bear sat quietly and listened to his heart.
“Do not worry Bear,” came his Father’s Voice, “Follow the bees and go to the honeycomb now and eat and eat. Grow very fat Bear, and then when you sleep all winter your food will be stored in your body and you will not be hungry.”
“Thank you Father. Now I know just what to do.”
And off Bear went to eat honey and grow fat.
The largest goose closed his eyes and said, “Father, I must take care of my flock of geese. Where can we go when the lakes are frozen and the trees are full of snow?”
And Goose sat quietly and listened to his heart.
“Do not worry Goose,” came his Father’s Voice. “Take your flock and fly far to the south. There it will stay warm all winter and there you will find lakes to swim on and leafy branches to sit under.”
“Thank you Father. Now I know just what to do.” And off flew the flock of geese toward the South.
Little Lamb smiled. He had helped his friends. Now they knew they must only ask and then listen for their Father’s loving Voice. For in their Father’s love was the answer to all their questions.
