It’s the third month and before it slips away
from us, let’s review Step Three from “Side by Side – the Twelve Steps and A
Course in Miracles”. In January we addressed ego and control. In
February, logic made us look at the choice between ego and a Higher Power. It’s
time now to review Step Three. . .
“I
must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace. I made the decision
myself, but I can also decide otherwise. I want to decide otherwise, because I
want to be at peace. I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo
all the consequences of my wrong decision if I will let Him. I choose to let
Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.”
A
Course in Miracles, Text
This
prayer becomes the first constructive step forward. Up to now we had simply
recognized and acknowledged our shortcomings and weaknesses. Now we needed to
put our decision FOR trust on the line, and do it.
A simple acknowledgment of the power
of decision making leads to the opening of a floodgate. As we turn our mind,
with all its fears, guilt, anger and need, over to the Holy spirit, we are
saying we are no longer in charge. We are stating our need and now turning that
need over to the Someone Who will know what to do.
Each miracle, each shift, each
successful result becomes growing proof that there is a Holy Spirit Who does
know what to do for us. Or in other words, His Will is our will. Thus, each
miracle builds another foundation stone of faith in God.
First, we take our specific problems
and soon we learn to take our unspecified pain. Through practice we find that
no matter the problem brought to the Holy spirit, no matter its size or seeming
importance, from the trivial to the catastrophic, the Answer becomes the
same: Our worries are taken care of and
our life can, if we allow it, condense into the instant of Now. A healing of
pain occurs.
