Here is the tried and true test to see if the person next to you is a wandering Savior – Is that personal annoying the *%x#!! out of you? Do you want to scream, “Get the heck away from me”? Are you really, really close to punching his or her lights out? Well, you found one!
Ha! You thought saviors should have a Mona Lisa smile, soft loving eyes and a gentle word of comfort to give you. That kind is usually found in paintings by the famous artists of old. A wandering savior is NOT that kind of savior.
You see, you came into this life to follow a particular type of path to salvation. The path is not to sit on a mountaintop in lotus studying your navel. Oh, no, that would have been much easier. Instead, you chose the pathway of FORGIVENESS. Bet, you thought you could get away easy with this one -- just walk around with a look of piety and get the job done. But, alas, you actually chose the really challenging path.
Point in fact – if forgiveness is your pathway, then you will be presented with LOTS of opportunities to forgive. Duh!
Though the concept that everyone around you (and, oh yes, yourself included) is a spiritually perfect Light, shining with the Love of God. The practical application of seeing this in the world gets a little tricky. To paraphrase ‘A Course in Miracles’, the people around you are either sending you love or calling desperately for your love. Either message can elicit in you a response of gratitude and love. I don’t know about you, but those messages from others tend to be so loud and obnoxious I sometimes miss the underlying spiritual meaning. Oh well, back to the classroom once more, I guess.
So here is the gift that each wandering savior offers – another opportunity to listen more closely, look more deeply, be willing more completely to allow the Holy Spirit to flow though others as well as ourselves.
What’s that I hear? It’s a knock at my door – hmmm, I wonder who is there?
